Your website is a crucial component if you plan on growing your business online. Here we present what to do to make sure your website works best for you and your business.

Hello there! Welcome to the first instalment of our five part series of how you can grow your business online.

The first part of our series will focus on how you can use your website to it’s maximum effect to give your customers the best online experience, whether you are in a service industry or selling online, and give them an online experience which reflects the the quality of your own products or services.

Mobile

The average time it takes to fully load a mobile landing page is 22 seconds, but 53% of visits are abandoned if a mobile site takes longer than three seconds to load.

How your website functions on a mobile or tablet is extremely important. Mobile web design should be stripped down to the basics, with all your most important information taking precedence.

When it comes to displaying your products, imagery should take up more real estate than text. By continually monitoring mobile traffic you can ensure you are providing the best possible experience.

If your mobile traffic is less than 10% then there is an issue. Using analytics, you can pinpoint where exactly on your website customers are losing interest and if there are any obstacles in their way.

Your calls to action also need to be optimised for mobile with a ‘click to call’ option visible on every page of your website.

Site Speed

That’s a big problem if you’re not on top of your mobile site speed game! There are a few tools you can use to sort out this issue, such as this Google site test tool.

This excellent tool from Google will give you a report on how much site visitors you would lose due to your speed, industry comparison and how you can resolve some of these issues. And resolve them you must if you are to going to attract business on through your website!

User Experience

User experience encompasses quite a bit. It’s more than just what the customer experiences on your website – it is the full customer experience. All the way from the initial awareness of the brand to the first purchase.

User experience, like advertising, is there to do the work for you when you’re not around.

The best way to approach UX is to talk to customers, understand their problems and reflect it back in the build of your website. What are their needs, motivations and goals?

UX allows you present this information to address those needs in a very simple and straightforward manner.

But there’s more it! It also includes quality of design, layout, imagery, and the content which reflects the business. First impressions last!

E-commerce

Feeding in from user experience, if you are selling a product online, don’t make it difficult for the potential customer to find the product or to buy the product. Stick to the two click rule – click and buy! Make it as easy as possible for the customer to discover what they want and then to purchase it.

Content

This is a biggie. Content is king when it comes to a website, but quality content is God. Quality content is no longer a quickly constructed blog-post, or a semi-funny joke that slightly conveys to what a user might enjoy, it has to be relatable, encourage engagement and insightful– which is harder said than done.

The online sphere is quickly becoming overpopulated with brands trying to have their voices heard and only the true quality content makers will be heard through the wall of noise.

The content on your site must reflect the tone of the brand and engage the audience. People want to be entertained and clued into their brands these days, so create content which enables this. If you’re content is quality enough and really engages the audience, then it will raise awareness, drive traffic and most importantly…capture leads!
